According to the CHP, the woman came toward the officer with the knife in her hand. That's when the officer shot her.

Paramedics took the woman to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, CHP said Friday night.

Big picture view:

The shooting forced the closure of the northbound lanes of the 71 Freeway for hours on Friday.

The CHP issued a SigAlert around 2:30 p.m. The north and southbound ramps at Euclid were also closed.

Just before 5 p.m., the left lane reopened, and around 8:30 p.m., CHP canceled the SigAlert and announced that all lanes had reopened.

Images from SkyFOX showed traffic heavily backed up for miles as over a dozen officers stood on the freeway with two tents set up nearby.

While the northbound lanes were closed, traffic was also backed up on the southbound lanes with only one lane of traffic moving.
